Next to cognac, the most famous French wine distillate, produced in the department of du Gers. The armagnac traditions are much older than the cognac traditions, because they date back to the 15th century. Armaniacs, especially the highest quality, they are not inferior to the most famous cognacs. The name 'Armagnac' is proprietary and only refers to the distillates made from wines from well-defined vineyards in the department du Gers.
